English for life

Learning a new language is a challenge every single day. Firstly because you might have opportunity to practice as much as possible and often it is not possible when you live in a country where not too much people speak it. Secondly because you have to learn it for whole life.

The experience to be in a country like the USA and to be able to put in practice everything that I have learnt in Brazil is amazing. However I realized everyday here that I must keep studying more and more when I go back to my own country.

The worst thing that can happen when you are talking English with someone is when the words disappear of your mind, and you try to reminder or explain in another way. It has been happing a lot in my journey in Philadelphia mainly when I have to talk with a English-native-speaker.

Other thing that has been happening a lot here is not understand what you asked for. Then I ask to person to repeat slowly and instead it, the person speaks loudly in the same way who he/she did before.  At least it is a funny situation.

Although I have had some difficulties in my way in use English every day here in Philly, the experience to be living real language situation has been unique in my life. I am complete aware about how it will enhance my personal English skills, but mainly how it will be able to make me understand more about  new culture, different country  and that people are people in anywhere in the world, with they  variegate behavior and idiosyncrasy.

Patriotic in a drees up way!

When we talk about patriotism is impressive how Americans really love their country. It is important to enhance confidence that things is going well even if it is not too well. Americans have to much to feel proud of their country. They are one of the most important economy in the world, great artists, the best movies and an important entertainment industry. Of course they have problems, but in everywhere you can find an American flag or someone wearing a t-shirt with the USA's colors.

 Technology is awesome mainly because you can keep in touch with interesting people all the time!!!!

Streets of Philadelphia

As time goes by...

When I arrived in Phildelphia it was so exciting to find a new world, a lot of experiences to live, places to visit and peolple to meet.

Every place that we visit is a way to change a little our mind. We start to be open for new possibilities in our lives, when we stayed in another country is necessary to be open mind to understand that people are different. We can not leave a country without take with us a little piece of this place. We always let a little piece of us in each place that we visited, however the most important is to keep in our minds and heart each every single moment. Things which cannot be captured for any camera, tablet or video.

American Pie

 As I talked about Madonna's Super Bowl performance in my last post, I remembered that she recorded a song that show a little about American Way. I love this video. I want to show them to my students in Brazil. 

Super bowl and super show

 The best thing about American football is probably not the game, but the break time. It has been a tradition as the Super Ball season great artists make a performance during the break time. People like Black Eyed Peas, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Slash and Madonna have already to take part in it.

In my opinion one of the most best performances was Madonna in 2012, unfortunately she has not put that part in her current tour in that time (MDNA).

Last week Red Hot Chilli Peppers made a performance in a game. However they were accused to use playback. At least the sound was horrible.

Well, what really important in Super Bowl is who will be the next musical.

Small piece of a new world

 

Philadelphia has been surprising me in a positively way. I have to say that come to the USA had never been a wish in my life. Of course I should come here someday only to visit, but if I had to pay for a interchange program, probably it would not be my first choice. 

Firstly because it is an expensive place to study, and second perhaps because as I have studied at a British language course it would be more comfortable to me to be in England or in another Britain country.

However, my experience in Philadelphia has made me change my concepts about the USA. People are kind, city is organized and most of Americans that I knew were absolutely lovely with me and patients with my horrible English. I am in serious relationship with USA and mainly with Philadelphia

English and Music: Ella Fitzgerald

A terrific way to learn English and practice pronunciation/listening/vocabular/grammar is listen to music. Then how I love music as too much than I love English, I always try to mix both in my lessons and even in my way to learn more.
Here is one of the most amazing American´s voice. She sang like an angel, perfect voice, technic and passion. Cheers for ever Ella Fitzgerald.
